Below is a press release from Rev. Edward Pinkney, director of BANCO Organization and former president of Benton Harbor, Michigan NAACP.  Rev. Pinkney announces a boycott against Whirlpool Corporation products and plans to picket the NAACP Image Awards in Hollywood, California on February 1, 2013.

Boycott all Whirlpool products Amana, Estate, Gladiators, Garage Works, In-sperience, Jenn-Air, Kitchen-Aid, Magic Chef, Maytag, Roper,Acros, Inglis, Bauknecht, Brastemp, Amiral, Ikea Appliance and Kenmore. Boycott starts November 1, 2012, at midnight.

Whirlpool steals money from the people!

Whirlpool Corporation will not pay anywhere near the U.S. statutory tax rate of 35% on those profits. Its effective rate is 0%.

Whirlpool has stock more than $500 million in tax credits. Remember that U.S. Rep Fred Upton, who is the heir to Whirlpool fortune, is the chair to the U.S. Energy Committee.

The firm get a production tax credit of up to $200 per refrigerators, $225 per washer and dryer and $75 per dishwasher.

Think of these energy efficiency tax carve out as a version of the earned income tax credit for corporate America. Except Whirlpool Corporation is not poor.

The deal gets sweeter. Those credit can be carried over from one year to the next for up to 20 years. Whirlpool is collecting so many credits that it may not have to pay a dime of corporate income tax for years and years. The lost revenue alone from Whirlpool far exceeds the $78 million revenue cost over 10 years that Congress's joint committee on taxation predicted for the credit...

Special favors like these also create a business constituency against tax reform that would benefit the overall economy. Whirlpool carries its $500 million of unused tax credit as an asset on its balance sheet, so cutting tax rates shrinks the book value of that asset.

"We are not opposed lowering tax rates," say Scott Hodge, president of the tax foundation.

The White House claims to want to reduce corporation tax rates in a neutral way by closing loopholes. Yet it is hard to take that commitment seriously when its new budget propose to extend the green-credit wind fall for another year. Whirlpool is one case study in the case for corporate tax reform.

Whirlpool has purchased the National NAACP, State NAACP, Benton Harbor NAACP, and placed the local inside of their building. The NAACP is no longer relevant and does not support the Black community.

We will protest the NAACP Image Awards in Hollywood California February 1, 2013. We are asking everyone to join us in this fight.

Racial Discrimination in Benton Harbor, MI

Subject: Racism is out-of-control in Benton Harbor, Michigan

Kim Hunt is the apartment building manager of Cogic Village Apts., a large complex in Benton Harbor.  She fired all Black employees and has hired her family and friends to work there.  She happens to be white.

 

Kim hunt calls the Black ladies "Niggers" and "Black bitches."  If someone stands up to her, she evicts them. She has evicted several Black residents, and threatened many more.

I have received over twenty-five complaints against Kim Hunt. Her racist activity is so long-standing and vicious, it has now gotten me involved in the Cogic Village community.

 

Eugene Branch, owner of Handy Branch Service

Mr. Branch has been a contractor at Cogic Village Apts. since 2005.  He has performed many jobs with no complaints.  Kim Hunt told the maintenance manager to fire Branch.  But the boss said Branch does a great job and refused.  So, Kim Hunt fired both Branch and the maintenance manager.

 

We had a protest today against Kim Hunt, Cogic, and Eagle Point Companies.  (Cogic is a church in Benton Harbor which owns the apartment complex;  Eagle Point is a nation-wide company which Cogic hired to manage the complex.)  Cogic pastor Nate Wells simply claims there are no problems with Kim Hunt.

Is the NAACP Attempting to Oust Rev. Pinkney?

After fighting for the right to vote for over 100 years, is the NAACP now ready to disenfranchise Benton Harbor members?

Last August 22, 2011 MI NAACP president Yvonne White asked Rev. Pinkney for the Benton Harbor chapter's 2010 "Branch Election" report. He emailed it to her that same day and received this email reply:

Now, five months later, Yvonne White has emailed Pinkney stating that the MI NAACP will come to BH on Feb. 25, 2012 to hold elections. Rev. Pinkney was elected branch president by wide margins in both 2009 and just five months ago, August 13, 2011.White says this coming election will be forced on the BH branch because the report Pinkney sent last August, which sec'y Juanita Taylor accepted, was not signed (how does one sign an email?), and a 2010 election was not held by the branch. According to White, the BH branch is no longer in "Good Standing."

Rev. Pinkney says there are two untruths in White's most recent email: She claims it had been explained to the BH membership that the 2009 election was only good until 2010, and that the state NAACP "attempted to work with the Branch to schedule that election. However, for various reasons this never took place." Pinkney says these things never happened.

White also stated: "It is also my understanding that the Branch has not met in more than six months and there are no current Executive Committee members." It would be almost no effort for her to discover that BH NAACP has a slate of officers and meets every single month.

Do Benton Harbor NAACP members have to fight the organization that supposedly stands for free and fair elections for all? Why should the August 13, 2011 election be tossed out? Is this really about silencing Pinkney? It certainly wouldn't be the first time! It's extremely distressing to see an organization such as the NAACP act like Emergency Manager Joe Harris, who already disenfranchised all Benton Harbor voters! Is the NAACP the new Emergency Manager?

(For the record, the BH chapter is called Twin City Area Branch NAACP #3155.)

When is EM Joseph Harris leaving Benton Harbor?
In September Benton Harbor Emergency Manager Joe Harris found evidence that $168 K was missing in BH so he contacted the FBI. Big mistake. In October Whirlpool told him he would be leaving his job. Whirlpool and it's real estate company Cornerstone Alliance continue to threaten him about losing his job. Remember, we are talking about "The Land That Time Forgot." Meaning Berrien County, Michigan of course.

Regarding the $14 million HUD grant for Benton Harbor, and Benton Harbor only, let's just say it's become another grand-sized theft by Whirlpool and Rep. Fred Upton of money desperately needed in BH. HUD rules require 25% of the 68 homes in a strategic area be "low-income" -- this is the first priority to meet the grant requirement. If the HUD NSP2* grant was being used legally, BH residents would receive housing counseling and home buying and down payment assistance. We can't think of a population more in need of this grant.

Where is the money going this time? Whirlpool and Upton agents, the Berrien County Commissioners, have divided up the grant so that roughly $7 million will go to Cornerstone Alliance for their personal use, and to build houses for upper middle class whites in Harbor Town, the resort "town" which is replacing lakefront BH.

The other $7 million goes to the Berrien County Land Bank Authority ** for acquisition "land-banking" and demolition. As 125 demolitions occur, EM Joe Harris will sell the properties to Cornerstone Alliance for $1.00 each.

**What is a Land Bank?

The short county website page - link below - states outrightly that:

--Benton Harbor neighborhoods are being "targeted"

--that really it's all about BH, and we know that does not mean lifting residents out of poverty and improving living situations as Neighborhood Stability Programs mandate

--that they are using federal money (NSP2 - HUD)

It's not stated, but if you follow Whirlpool's activies, you know this page is dedicated to eliminating BH residents by any means necessary to create a resort for the 1%. Long ago human suffering became a meaningless term for those in St. Joe and Berrien County who are motivated by greed. Someone, probably at WPool, came up with the Land Bank idea 2009 as another helpful eradication (genocide) tool.
