Dr. Rev Floyd D. Harris, Jr., International President of the National Network In Action, a civil and human rights organization, and the Assistance Pastor of New Light For New Church Of God, will celebrate "The Dream: MLK's 50th Anniversary."
Dr. Rev Floyd D. Harris, Jr., International President of the National Network In Action, a civil and human rights organization, and the Assistance Pastor of New Light For New Church Of God, will celebrate "The Dream: MLK's 50th Anniversary."
During the week of August 27, hundreds of thousands of Americans will gather in Washington, D.C. to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech, "I Have a Dream." People throughout the nation will reflect on the march on Washington in August 1963, applauding the bravery and fortitude of those who fought together and seriously wounded Jim Crow. We will gather here in Fresno to also celebrate The Dream: MLK's 50th Anniversary.
"I Have a Dream" is a public speech delivered by Rev. King on August 28, 1963, in which he called for an end to racism in the United States. Delivered to over 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The speech was a defining moment of the American Civil Rights Movement.
WE WILL BE CELEBRATING ALONG WITH THE NATION AND THE WORLD, RIGHT HERE IN FRESNO:
There will be open mic-celebrations – So come and listen to singing groups like our Fresno Raging Grannies, gospel singers, spoken word, poetry, Social Justice Hip Hop, dancing, drumming, Peace Organizations 3 minute open mic shout-outs, Bring your Lawn chairs, candles, social justice signs, petitions/sign-ins, announcements etc. Bring cameras for posting this event on your Internet social sites.
Following Open Mic celebration, there will be a candlelight vigil to commemorate those who gave their lives for justice.
